Spectacular Incompetence #2

It appears that our Central Bank, charged with the responsibility of protecting our money supply, our foreign exchange accounts, and overseeing the local banking system have been unable to account for a few million in $100 bills of money in their safekeeping….

The announcement came in the form of a request for us Bajans to check our wallets to see if any of that money had strayed into our possession….

As Peter Boyce asked…. These people right in their head? Unless Bush Tea was some kind of masochist, please explain what would motivate me to bring a perfectly legal $100 bill to the central bank in exchange for another one; to probably find myself interviewed by police, lawyers, press and lord-knows-who; to have to fill out forms; waste time etc….ALL BECAUSE SOME IDIOT AT CENTRAL BANK DID NOT DO THEIR JOB????

And does anyone care to bet that no one at a high level of responsibility will be fired? The people at the top will be totally innocent of ANY responsibility -although they hired the above idiot(s), set the failed policies, managed the place, and are always on TV taking any possible credits that are available?

But how can they be found wanting? When these same people are in place during the current investigation? OF COURSE they will be keen to assist in providing relevant information that will demonstrate their incompetence….

…Then again… if the police can investigate themselves why not let the Central Bank investigate themselves too…. Hell, why not let our criminals set up their own court?

What a place!!!!

NB- No smart comments from bloggers about any truth to the last statement will be entertained. That was a tongue-in-cheek statement!!!

About bushtea

Bush tea is a miserable old Bajan man who has become disillusioned with life as we know it in the early 21st century. He wishes for a simpler more meaningful existence, but has developed various outlandish theories to explain every conceivable mystery; to solve every problem; and to challenge every known fact accepted by society. Unfortunately, WordPress makes it possible for the Bushman to unload on anyone who dares to log on..... Welcome sucker....

Seems that you have a lot on your mind BT, the Bush tea seems to be working.
This Central Bank matter represents the height of incompetence by our Central Bankers.
We intended to write a note about it but since you have scooped us here is what we have been hearing from our sources, along with what has been reported in the media i.e. two people arrested.

One of the perpetrators is a low level employee and one wonders how he could have waltz into the regulator’s vault and steal these $100 notes which was over a long period of time.

The time over which this heist occurred speaks volumes for the incompetence.

What about the fact that the same employee was known to the police because of his involvement in a drug bust?

What about the fact that senior personnel at the Central Bank were advised and brushed it off as not worthy of action.

Can you imagine a low level employee implicated in a criminal act and he is allowed to work in the cash vault of the central Bank?

Remember that the Central Bank as we understand it is responsible for regulating banks.

    David,

    WHAT SCOOP WHAT!!!

    You talking chalk and cheese…

Try an put up your article on BU hear? this Bush Tea thing is just a micro mock blogger meking sport …

You don’t think that Bush Tea is surprised by the points raised do you? THIS IS A NORM FOR BARBADOS.

I expected them to blame the janitor and gardener ….

It appears that top management only gets paid in order to maintain their social status… This may explain why it is WHO you are rather than what you can bring to the job in terms of efficiency and productivity that matters…

The central bank have too many doctors in charge – including H.R., so maybe the level of thinking is too high for us regular people…

  3. General Lee says:

In these types of scenarios , the man at the bottom, becuse he is closest to the ground, always take the fall. He is convinced by those above, that he has the least to lose and he will benefit greatly if he keeps his mouth shout.
Those whose job it is too know better, accept this charade and everyone goes away happy.

How can a low level employee just walk out of any bank with even ten dollars if everyone is doing they job?
You mean the security cameras were off and everybody was sleeping except him?

  4. David says:

Details are still sketchy on that one GL. Word is the money was in a box and may not have been properly logged, it is the reason they are unsure how long the theft was in motion.

All we can say is AMAZING!

We are still waiting on our source for clarity because we don’t want to perpetuate rumour 🙂

  5. Technician says:

When I had to work in the Central Bank as a Technician I had to stop by the guard in the bullet proof room on the ground floor, give him my ID, get one from him, go to the 8th or 10th floor, sign in with Reception for the maintenance room key, then go back to the 3rd floor to do my work, sometimes with an escort.
I always thought that the security was tight, sometimes I felt like a crook (lol)….not knowing they had their own on payroll….RLMAO!!

  6. Hopi says:

@@Technician… Maybe the huge mistake you made was that you were not properly attired like those penstriped prostitutes.

One thing you can count on in Bimshire is that monkey-see-monkey-do mindset. These proud and industrious citizens saw that one of the grandest heist of our time just occurred in the US in broad daylight and no one was arrested nor imprisoned, furthermore they were rewarded, so they decided to do the same and hopefully they won’t be arrested nor imprisoned either. Right now choke and rob is en vogue so they might as well ride that wave. Had to be an inside job! Anyhow I do hope they help out the financially destitute and don’t keep all for themselves. Spread the wealth, spread the love.

this is too funny. i just noticed this. on mar 18, 2008, corey rock added the following application to his facebook page.

Corey added the Be a Billionaire! application. 8:15am

Corey has just become a millionaire on “Be a Billionaire!” 8:15am

  9. Bad Lukky says:

A messenger and two nobodys get charged for the money. I like I really more foolish than I look.
A messenger!!!! He did very important.

  10. Bush Tea says:

This is Barbados BL, who you expect to get charged? an employee who was responsible for security of cash? a supervisor in charge of the vault? a manager who runs the department and gets paid to see that things like this dont happen? or maybe you would like to blame Dr Williams who runs the whole joke place…..

My man, big-ups in Barbados only get paid because they in the right lodge or know the right people – not for ACTUAL work or responsibility.

..next thing you would be calling for these people to actually go to work instead of luncheons, dinners and overseas conferences….

It is the messenger fault, he should have applied for a big job if he know he wanted to steal money….

  11. General Lee says:

The man was a/the? vault attendant, so I guess that could qualify as a big job. Since 2006…..how often do they do audits?

BT what is the level below incompetence baecause this gone pass incompetence and we have not heard of anybody resigning or being sent on leave.

  12. bushtea says:

    General Lee,
Even if we could define a level below spectacular incompetence we would still have a problem….. these people are at an even LOWER level…

I maintain that it all starts at the TOP.

If the Prime Minister would fire the person responsible then managers would get the hint that THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO WORK for their salary.

All the responsible people up the line from that man should be fired…. Right up to the person with the guts to take action.

I don’t know what foolishness this is talking bout they charging a shop keeper? That is a MINOR issue compared to the SLACKNESS at the Central Bank.

    …this whole place SICK.

  13. David says:

Expect some bigups to retire/resign. If not the DLP is the same old same old.

  14. bushtea says:

Do you REALLY expect that David? Or are you saying that we SHOULD be able to expect that?

If we can’t even make the joker from the Sports Council take his holiday without a lot of commotion and court time…. how much lower can we go?

What do you bet that he ends up sitting on that position for the next 5 years as a lame duck director- while sports in this country suffer?

    LEADERSHIP David.
That is what is missing in ALL areas.

    To Bush Tea:
Hereafter to be referred to as Bushie. I want to congratulate you on your blog. I read your piece on God etc.., but your approach seems to eclectic in its nature. I am seeing pieces of various beliefs with God and the Jesus story holding the rest together as a coordinating agency. Yet your words reflect a emptiness within this whole thought paradigm. For instance, not once did you confirm whether this approach/ belief was bringing any inner peace. Not once did you proclaim it as christians and pagans do as the real thing that must be experienced and sought after. Not once did i feel a sense of confidence coming from you. It is constructed as if this is my thing what do you think. I know you know about absolutes, and if it is given that good is an absolute then evil can not coexist; hence my problem with the big engineer’s design. As far as I recognize He is trying to return this earth to a state of absolute. What do you think of the dilemma of the structure of atoms beyond the quarks; what is becoming clear is that it does not seem to conform to our time and space.
